Welcome Chen Her: Universal Teller
We are pleased to welcome Chen Her, Universal Teller, to our St. Paul branch. Chen truly enjoys working with our customers. He has a wide variety of interests, but working with people brings him joy.
In high school, Chen worked in the library, which satisfied his love of reading. In college, he interned as a software developer and taught K-12 robotics. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science but soon realized he enjoyed that line of work more as a hobby than as a career.
“I love interacting with Coulee Bank customers every day. Some people enjoy sharing about their day, and some like sharing their financial plans with me,” he says. “People lead very full lives and often have ambitious and inspiring stories.” Working with people truly brings him joy.
Chen is excited to grow in his new role by learning from experienced coworkers and supervisors. He’s equally motivated by the opportunity to help clients, especially those who struggle to express what they need. He believes his ability to read between the lines will help him better understand, communicate, and serve them.
When Chen isn’t working, he loves listening to music. In fact, it’s rare to find him without earbuds in. Coldplay is one of his favorite bands, but his musical taste reflects the diversity of his close friends—they share a lot of the music they listen to. Reconnecting with his heritage is important, too, because he grew up in a traditional Hmong home and he often listens to Hmong music.
Chen collects watches, playing cards, comic books, and additional collectibles. They don’t necessarily need to be expensive or rare, just interesting. He is also a big fan of the written word; he experiments with writing to process thoughts and ideas while stretching his curiosity and creativity.
Traditional Hmong food is his favorite, especially pork and mustard greens soup. “It’s the most extravagant dish out there, but when I’m sick or missing home, it’s the first thing I crave,” he says. He enjoys dining out as an adult, something his family couldn’t afford when he was growing up. “I didn’t eat at McDonald’s until I was in high school!”
Chen Her, we are so grateful you chose Coulee Bank for your career. We wish you so much happiness and success.
