Employee Spotlight: Julia Patek

At Coulee Bank, our people are at the heart of everything we do. This month, we’re pleased to introduce one of the dedicated team members from our Deposit Operations team. From the nitty-gritty details of processing checks to her volunteer opportunities in La Crosse, we’re excited to introduce Julia Patek, Deposit Operations Specialist.

As a Deposit Operations Specialist, daily activities vary. Patek does a wide variety of tasks, including processing outgoing and incoming wires, correcting checks that were processed for incorrect amounts, setting up and modifying automatic transfers, handling foreign checks, sending out check returns, and resolving transactions that didn’t post to accounts due to errors.

“Much of my job is about fixing errors. I believe I am well-suited for this job because I have a kind of compulsion to pay attention to details—I love fixing errors!” She exclaims.

Patek also serves on the Community Involvement Committee at Coulee Bank. She enjoys volunteering throughout the year to help the La Crosse community. One of her favorite places to help is WAFER Food Pantry in La Crosse.

Outside of work, Patek enjoys spending time with her husband of 18 years and two cats, Lucy and Leo. You may also find her knitting or watching Alfred Hitchcock movies. “I remember watching many Hitchcock films when I was younger. My favorite movie is Shadow of a Doubt, which I have seen like 50 times!” She exclaims. Vertigo and The Lady Vanishes are her two other favorites.

Her interests don’t stop at home—she’s also had the chance to enjoy some memorable experiences traveling. Many years ago, she spent a month in Hamburg, Germany, taking German classes and enjoying the scenery. She got to see a church that composer Johannes Brahms was connected to. Then, she toured a Russian U-Boat that’s now a museum and attended an event called Cruise Days. This is where several ships arrived in the harbor simultaneously blasting their horns, and the sky lit up with a fireworks display. “It was one of the coolest things I had ever seen,” she says.
